Wow.

I'd heard about this, but hadn't seen it until just now.

"What you're about to hear is a portion of a jaw-dropping speech delivered by an Oklahoma State Representative at a gathering in her district. This is what they say when they think we're not listening. Learn more at the Victory Fund."

There are moments when I feel uncertain about our country and our world's future. Right now, this just makes me mad.

Living in Oklahoma, I can tell you that this is the Bible belt-- very right winged -- and not the acceptance type of Bible that you might be thinking of, but the hate-mongering, damned if you do not join our church type of Bible. The representative's husband is a preacher in a Baptist Church.

Her speech makes you mad. It makes me sad... really breaks my heart to think that someone believes that being gay is more of a threat than terrorists. And indoctrinating our children? Seriously? Rep. Sally Kern (sallykern@okhouse.gov) was out of line, and many people in Oklahoma have spoken out against her and her statements. Her speech scary, hurtful, and really serves no benefit to our society.

Maria says it eloquently.
I get posts from Human Rights Committee and this is how I first saw this video. It is so discouraging to see how frightened people can spew out hateful, vengeful diatribes. Sometimes I worry that I am becoming so intolerant of people like this that, in fact, I'm becoming like them: intolerant. That's when I start repeating the serenity prayer.
